“Leather” can mean four very different things. Here’s where the Snap sits — and why it lasts.
Full-Grain Leather
The entire top layer of the hide, untouched. The strongest, most breathable cut — it develops a rich patina and lasts decades, not years.
Top-Grain Leather
The top layer sanded and buffed to hide flaws. Thinner and less durable — it won’t age or patina the way full-grain does.
“Genuine” Leather
A misleading label. Lower splits of the hide, often surface-coated. Looks fine at first, then stiffens and cracks with use.
Bonded Leather
Leftover scraps ground up and glued together. The cheapest “leather” there is — it peels and flakes within months.
